Marker - born Christian François Bouche-Villeneuve and still active into his 80s - was also known for the documentary style seen in his other famous work 1983's experimental essay-film "Sunless," which again takes up the time themes used in his earlier material.

In "Sunless," the thoughts of a world traveler are narrated and used to look at the failings of human memory; especially in creating world history.

Marker's work was often politically engaged, and in 1967 he produced "Far from Vietnam," a documentary film featuring pieces by Jean-Luc Godard and Alain Resnais that opposed U.S. involvement in southeast Asia.

Cannes Film Festival President Gilles Jacob on Monday called Marker an "indefatigable filmmaker."

Afghan boxer overcomes odds despite defeat

Ajmal Faisal, Afghanistan's sole boxer at the Olympics, said just getting to London for the Games had been a triumph after he lost in the first round here on Monday.

"We are not allowed to train as freely as we would like to."

"There are not enough facilities and I have to pay for my own equipment and training, it costs me 80 to 90 Afghani rupees per session to train."

The 2012 State of Enterprise Communication Survey [VIDEO - Blogs

Let?s explore our second finding, that an increasingly mobile and distributed workforce is fueling cloud based Unified Communication (UC) adoption. It turns out that most endpoints are outside the headquarters location in remote offices, mobile end points and residential offices. Further almost a third of all call center operators are now working from home. This move towards a more distributed workforce is driving organizations to embrace cloud computing. While cloud deployment of enterprise communications is not common today (just 16% of all enterprises) cloud is poised for growth. In fact nearly half (45%) say they are planning on deploying cloud out in 2012.

Our final finding shows that while UC is very much a priority, critical skills gaps are causing problems. First, staff often lack the skills needed for today?s enterprise communications. The top three deficiencies were: private cloud communications, public cloud communications and private web based video conferencing. Furthermore, organizations told us that staffing levels are inadequate and that enterprise communications was becoming too complex to easily manage. How can enterprises ease the transition to IP communications?

Here are four recommendations. First, get started today. An IP communications platform is simpler, easily scalable and saves money in a variety of ways. Second, be sensible about hybrid systems to avoid overspending. A good option is a centralized session management server which unifies network management, provides least cost wide area IP routing, common dialing plans and centralized applications. Third, consider managed services to obtain the skills you need quickly without the high fixed costs of permanent employees. Finally, embrace cloud to keep costs down and accelerate the deployment of new applications.

?They Can?t Imprison All of Us?: Baptist College Vows to Resist Obamacare and Department of Justice

For the Obama administration, defending the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, looks like it may be becoming a game of legal whack-a-mole. One mandate gets declared constitutional, only to have another potentially problematic one spring up.

In this case, the mandate that?s involved is the mandate that employers provide contraception coverage for their employees. That mandate, released long before the first decision declared Obamacare?s mandate legal as a tax, has sparked more than a little resistance from the Catholic Church. And now, it has a lawsuit pending from one small but tenacious Baptist liberal arts college. From Fox News? Todd Starnes:

?The president of Louisiana College said his school?s lawsuit against ObamaCare will go forward and vowed to defy the law even if the courts rule in favor of the Obama administration.

?If the government continues to say that we have to do this, we will not do it,? President Joe Aguillard told Fox News. ?There?s going to be, in my opinion, a constitutional crisis. We?re not going to do it.?

Louisiana College, affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, filed suit against the federal government in February. They believe the administration?s mandate that religious employers provide abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization and contraception is unconstitutional.[...]

Aguillard said even if the courts rule against the college, there is no way they will comply with the law.

?I guess President Obama will have to come down to Louisiana College with whatever means they want to stop us,? he said. ?We are going to have, as we say in French, a tete-a-tete.?

Aguillard said the battle with the federal government has united the 106-year-old college.

?They can?t imprison all of us,? he said. ?They can?t fight all of us. We are greater than the Dept. of Justice.?

Louisiana College is not the only school to have done this. The evangelical Wheaton College has joined a similar lawsuit.

So would an entire college refusing to comply with the Federal government be, as Aguillard suggests, a constitutional crisis? Probably not, largely because constitutional crises tend to involve particular branches of government taking each other on, rather than private entities taking the government on. However, it would be a law enforcement crisis, and would probably produce highly damaging optics for the government. We can only imagine the kind of lurid coverage one could get out of seeing random college administrators being shoved into vans. However, based on previous precedent, it would be more likely to force the administration to issue waivers for the contraception mandate, not retract it for everyone.

Still, it?s an encouraging story for those who support religious freedom in this country.

The Chinatown Neighborhood Association, a Chinese-American group based in San Francisco, has announced its intention to file a lawsuit challenging the state of California's ban on the possession, sale and distribution of shark fins.

California Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill prohibiting the sale of shark fins last year at the urging of animal rights activists, who argued that shark fin soup, a delicacy in Chinese culture, is cruel to obtain.

"The practice of cutting the fins off of living sharks and then dumping them back in the ocean is not only cruel, but it harms the health of our oceans," Brown told the San Francisco Chronicle.

Anyone in California caught flouting the ban could be subjected up to $1,000 and six months in prison.

Chinese-American groups, on the other hand, have defended shark fins as an important part of their cultural heritage.

"Merchants are losing business--approximately $40 million and a loss of 300 jobs throughout California," Chinatown Neighborhood Association member Pius Lee explained to the San Francisco Examiner. "It?s discriminating to the Chinese population."

Lee added that, because the law still allows for the consumption of shark meat--just not shark fins--it's explicitly targeting the Chinese community.

The Chinatown Neighborhood Association isn't the first group to file suit over the shark fin ban. Earlier this year, the Asian American Rights Committee of California sued the state in federal court claiming the ban was unconstitutional.

"Shark fin soup is an Asian cultural delicacy with origins in the Ming Dynasty. It is a ceremonial centerpiece of traditional Chinese banquets, as well as celebrations of weddings and birthdays of one's elders," the committee wrote in its complaint.

According to a statewide poll commissioned by the Monterey Bay Aquarium late last year, over three-quarters of Californians support the shark fin ban. That sentiment is nearly as strong in the Chinese-American community, where a full 70 percent oppose allowing the sale of shark fins.

The practice of shark finning is prohibited be federal law in the waters under the jurisdiction of the United States government; however, local bans are targeted at restaurants using shark fins obtained in other countries or in international waters.

CAIRO (AP) ? Egypt's top intelligence agency, long a secretive power behind the country's ruling system, is taking a small but unprecedented step out of the shadows in an apparent attempt to win the public's support in the face of potential challenges from the new Islamist president.

In an unusual move, the General Intelligence Service ? known as the "Mukhabarat" in Arabic ? released a 41-minute-long documentary boasting of its achievements, presenting itself as the defender of the nation and vowing to continue to protect the country.

"The eye of the Egyptian intelligence does not sleep," the narrator says. In one of the film's many dramatic images, it shows footage of a falcon ? the agency's symbol ? circling in the sky and swooping down to snatch up a snake.

"Behind the curtains, the men of Egypt's intelligence services continue to monitor issues, analyze facts, confront offenses, carry out operations and succeed in achievements without us knowing what they look like or who they are," the narrator says.

The documentary, aired late last week on private and state-run Egyptian TV stations, also plays heavily on widespread anti-Israel sentiment among Egyptians, saying the agency has protected Egypt from plots by Israel and its Western allies. It shows footage from World War II, including images of Jews interned in Nazi camps, and says that Jews plotted for "a nation created on the land of Palestine."

The film, titled "The Word of a Nation," was a highly unusual public relations move for an agency which traditionally stays hidden, has an opaque but pervasive role and is described by experts as "a state within a state." The agency oversees espionage efforts abroad but also plays a significant role domestically. It was a crucial underpinning of Hosni Mubarak's 29-year rule, working to suppress his opponents and ensure the loyalty of institutions nationwide.

Former intelligence officer Gen. Sameh Seif al-Yazal told The Associated Press that the film was made to raise awareness about the importance of the agency after it came under attack by some for not doing its job and was criticized as serving remnants of Mubarak's regime.

But it comes at a time when the agency and other key parts of the old system are looking to defend their turf and their sway over the country after the election victory of the new president, Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood. The group was the chief nemesis of Mubarak's regime and was repressed by his widely-hated state security services and the Mukhabarat itself.

In theory, the intelligence agency and other security services would now report to Morsi ? but they and the military are believed to be pushing back to ensure that does not happen and that Morsi does not get to name the government ministers who would oversee them.

"For many years, the (agency) saw the Brotherhood as their prime enemy," said Heba Morayef, a researcher for Human Rights Watch in Egypt. "And because of the treatment the Brotherhood saw for many years, there is a fundamental mistrust and an inherent power struggle that is yet to be addressed."

Eventually, the Brotherhood may try to reshape the security agencies. "If restructuring doesn't happen immediately, it will sooner or later," Morayef said. "The battle hasn't started yet."

Already, the Brotherhood is in a power struggle with the military, which has ruled since Mubarak's fall. It has formally handed over power to Morsi, but before doing so it seized overwhelming authorities for itself that retain a large degree of control and restrain the new president. The military's head, Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, vowed that the army would never allow the Brotherhood to dominate the country.

The Mukhabarat and the military are in "complete cooperation and understanding" with one another, Gen. al-Yazal said. The intelligence agency's building is located behind the walls of the Defense Ministry in Cairo. Intelligence chiefs are often from the military. Throughout most of its history, the intelligence agency's chief was never named, until the last decade when its head Omar Suleiman emerged in a public role as Mubarak's right-hand man.

Suleiman was one of the most powerful figures in Mubarak's inner circle, serving as his intelligence chief since 1993 and then as his vice president during the 2011 uprising. He was dubbed "Mubarak's black box" because of his reputation as the regime's holder of secrets. When Mubarak fell, he was replaced as intelligence chief by Murad Muwafi.

Suleiman briefly tried to run for president ? provoking a furious outcry from those who launched the revolution against Mubarak ? but failed to qualify on technical grounds.

Now the Mukhabarat have faced sharp criticism from Morsi's Brotherhood as well as pro-democracy activists who fear it will keep its grip on the state. Some have been calling for the prosecution of Suleiman for his connections to Mubarak's regime, notorious for its political repression and corruption.

"Suleiman's papers should not have been submitted to the elections commission, but to the courts," said Mohammed el-Beltagy, a leading Brotherhood member and former lawmaker, during a recent interview on the privately-owned ONTV. "This (the agency) is at the heart of Mubarak's regime, which used to rely on the intelligence services and state security."

During Mubarak's trial, in which he was sentenced to life in prison for failing to stop the killing of hundreds of protesters during the revolt against him, prosecutors and lawyers for the victims' families accused the intelligence agency of being uncooperative in the investigation and of destroying tapes and other vital documents incriminating police of targeting unarmed protesters.

This month, Morsi issued a presidential decree to re-open all the investigations. The investigative committee, though, will likely not have authority to investigate the military's involvement in deadly protests since Mubarak's toppling.

Good news for "Breaking Bad" fans who are Dish Network subscribers. The cable provider may have recently dropped AMC from its lineup, but the network isn't about to let viewers go without the critically acclaimed show's highly anticipated season five premiere.

AMC announced on Thursday that it will live stream "Breaking Bad" on its website at 10 p.m. ET Sunday just for Dish subscribers.?

"Every?cable, phone and satellite company other than DISH carries AMC and its popular programming, including 'Breaking Bad,' ' The Walking Dead,' and 'Mad Men,' in their basic package," the network said in a statement. "AMC wants its loyal DISH viewers to experience the excitement of the 'Breaking Bad' premiere at the same time as their friends and neighbors, and we want to give DISH customers an extra week to switch providers so they can enjoy the rest of the season.?

Dish customers can register for access to the live stream at?www.amctv.com/breakingbad4dish?starting Friday at 3 p.m. ET.

Dish dropped AMC Networks -- which includes AMC, IFC and WE -- on June 30, with the cable provider indicating that AMC's fees were an issue. But a source with ties to the situation told TODAY.com that there had been in fact no discussions between the two parties about fees. A statement from AMC also claimed that the move by Dish was done "in retaliation for an unrelated lawsuit."

"Breaking Bad" season five premieres at 10 p.m. Sunday on AMC.
